ABCs of Computing at Home
Publishing your Website
If you used a program like Yahoo Site Builder, publishing
your site is as simple as clicking the Publish button,
entering your Yahoo password, choosing the domain name
(if you have more than one site), and enter.
If you used Microsoft Office Front Page,...........it can be a little
more complicated, but easy to learn. First, you will need to
activate your account before you use Front Page. Your web
host should provide 'how to' instructions.
To publish to your site, follow these steps:
From the Front Page File menu, click on "Publish Web."
In the "Specify the location to publish your web to" field, type
in your Web Hosting domain name (for example, one of
mine is http://www.jimmysinternetcafe.com).
The Publish Web window contains an "Include subwebs"
checkbox. Check this box if you plan on working on your web
site alone (in other words, you do not plan to allow others
publishing privileges). Do NOT check this box if you plan to
collaborate with other authors. It will ask you whether you
want to publish only pages that have been changed or all
pages. Check "Publish All" your first time. Later, when you
make changes, you can choose "Publish only pages that
have been changed."
You should not use Front Page 2002 in combination with
FTP. For additional help with Front Page. You will need to
set up an FTP tool by entering your FTP account settings.
Once your tool is set up, it's easy to connect to your account:
Just click the "Connect," "Go," or similar button to activate a
connection.
When you successfully connect, your tool will display the
folders and files in your Web Hosting account, and you can
start working with your files. Learn how to upload and
download with FTP.
Now you are ready to promote your new site.
